Youth Emotional Support is delighted to introduce the Walt and Suzanne Steiner Sweet Pea Fund.

This fund has been developed to provide support for individuals in need of mental health counseling who are uninsured, underinsured, or financially unable to afford care. Access to quality mental health services should not be a privilege—it is a necessity. We believe that emotional wellness is foundational to a person’s overall health, relationships, academic performance, and future success. Yet, for many in our community, especially those facing financial hardship, getting the help they need can be out of reach.

Hello Sweet Pea Therapists,
I hope this message finds you well. On behalf of Youth Emotional Support (YES), I would like to thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to expanding access to mental health services in our community.
After one year of implementation, we have conducted a comprehensive review of the Sweet Pea Fund to ensure sustainability, clarity, and continued impact. Based on this review, several updates will take effect beginning May 1, 2026.
For pre-licensure therapists, the updated fee structure will be as follows:
  • $75 for the initial intake session
  • $50 per session for up to eight (8) sessions
In addition, all participating providers will be required to attend a virtual Zoom orientation. This session will review program expectations, eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and overall guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance across all services funded through the Sweet Pea Fund.

There are now three options for funding your client. A licensed therapist may apply for the fund on behalf of a new client (existing clients are ineligible) for 8, 12, or 16 sessions. Reimbursement rates are as follows:

  •  8 sessions, with a reimbursement rate of  $100.00 per session and $140.00 for the intake session.
  • 12 sessions, with a reimbursement rate of  $67.00 per session and $140.00 for the intake session.
  • 16 sessions, with a reimbursement rate of  $50.00 per session and $140.00 for the intake session.
Please also note that the Sweet Pea Fund is designated to serve residents of Volusia County and must be utilized with therapists who are practicing within Volusia County, in alignment with funding requirements.
These updates are intended to strengthen the program, ensure equitable access to care, and maintain alignment with funding requirements while supporting both clients and providers.
We truly value your role in this work and appreciate your flexibility as we implement these enhancements. Additional details regarding scheduling for the required orientation will be shared shortly.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out.
